CONSULTATION
Questions & Answers
(Generally for Large Events ~ Weddings, Quincenera’s, Anniversaries, etc.)
Q: HOW DO I BOOK A CONSULTATION?
Q: HOW SOON SHOULD I BOOK MY CONSULTATION?
A: It’s never too early to book your event consultation! Please note however, that our busiest time is during peak wedding season (May-September); our weekends book very quickly, usually months in advance, so please consider booking your consultation at least six (6) months ahead of time.
Q: I’VE ALREADY DECIDED ON WHAT I WANT, DO I STILL HAVE TO BOOK A CONSULTATION?
A: I do require that I meet at least once with the person in charge of the event prior to making any event cake. Not only is this necessary so you can TASTE SAMPLES (upon request), this is also necessary to ensure everyone’s happiness with the end result and to make sure we’re on the same page as far as design and colors are concerned.
Q: DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME?
A: Please feel free to bring photos of any cakes you may have. I will have several books with many cake pictures to browse through for inspiration!
Q: HOW MANY SAMPLES CAN I TRY?
A: Please limit the number of cake choices and fillings to three (3). If you would like to try additional flavors and/or fillings, a charge of $5 per single sample will apply. A single sample size is one (1) cupcake, which will serve two (2) people.
Q: HOW LONG DO CONSULTATIONS TAKE?
A: Most consultations take 45 minutes to 1 hour from beginning to end.
Q: WHAT IF I’M RUNNING LATE TO MY CONSULTATION?
A: Please give me a call if you’re running late. If you will be more than fifteen (15) minutes late, I will have to ask you to reschedule your appointment as I may have others scheduled behind your time. If it becomes necessary for you to reschedule your consultation, ALL samples will be charged at $5 each, no exceptions. If you’re running late and need to reschedule, but would like to pick up your samples the same night to avoid sample charges at your next scheduled consultation, I am happy to box them for you to take!
Q: IF I CHOOSE CAKES4FUN TO MAKE MY WEDDING / EVENT CAKE, DO I HAVE TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT THE EVENING OF THE CONSULTATION?
A: When you call to book your consultation, I will ask your wedding/event date to check my availability before anything else. If I’m booking quickly, I may ask you to pay a $50 “hold the date” fee in advance of your consultation to guarantee my availability. This fee is NON-REFUNDABLE; however, if you choose Cakes4Fun to make your wedding cake, the entire $50 will be applied to your total order!
During the consultation, if you’re undecided, or have other consultations to attend, you may either leave a $50 NON-REFUNDABLE “save the date” deposit, or not. If you choose to attend other consultations before making a final decision, you do so at your own risk, and I cannot guarantee my availability if you call me later to book my services.
If you choose to book my services the night of your consultation, you may either pay a 50% deposit on your total order or you may pay the full amount. If you choose to make a deposit, the remaining balance is due two (2) weeks before your wedding/event date. If I do not receive full payment two (2) weeks prior to your wedding/event date, you will need to make arrangements with another baker to provide your wedding cake.
All financial obligations and deadlines will be written out in a Cakes4Fun Contract, which I require to be signed by at least one party at the close of your consultation.
Q: WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND regarding the design of my cake AFTER THE initial CONSULTATION?
A: You may change almost anything up to one (1) month before the wedding date. No changes in size or design after the one (1) month deadline. If changes are imperative due to unforeseen circumstances, additional charges may apply.
OTHER DETAILS
THE LOOK
Each tier of our tiered cakes measures slightly taller than four inches. This is due to the fact that each two-layer tier is torted (sliced horizontally) and filled, creating four layers of cake filled with three layers of filling! This makes for a beautiful serving presentation! If you prefer two-layers of cake with one layer of filling, just ask!
WEDDING CAKE PICK UP versus DELIVERY
This is NOT a practice I recommend as wedding/event cakes are very delicate! I NEVER deliver wedding cakes already assembled; they are always assembled on-site so they are structurally sound when I leave them for the event. However, there are times a pick up is requested in lieu of paying delivery costs, etc. If you choose to pick up your cake, I STRONGLY SUGGEST you choose a non-tiered cake; one that can be placed on separate stands/plates. However, if you INSIST the cake is preassembled/stacked prior to you picking it up, YOU CHOOSE TO PICK UP THE CAKE AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN A WAIVER OF LIABILITY/HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT BEFORE YOU’RE PERMITTED TO TAKE THE CAKE FROM MY PREMISES. ONCE THE CAKE IS IN YOUR POSSESSION, IT IS NO LONGER MY RESPONSIBILITY AND I CANNOT/WILL NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR A CAKE THAT “TOPPLES” OVER OR ARRIVES AT IT’S DESTINATION IN A LESS THAN FAVORABLE STATE.
SHOULD YOU REFUSE TO SIGN THE WAIVER OF LIABILITY/HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT, YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO TAKE THE CAKE, AND NO MONIES WILL BE REFUNDED TO YOU.
CANCELLATIONS
You must cancel your wedding cake contract AT LEAST NINETY (90) days prior to the event date to receive a refund of all paid monies, less your $50 deposit. If you cancel your cake order less than ninety (90) days prior to the event date, no paid monies will be returned to you.
